Bathing options that fit your needs and your budget.

Bathrooms pose the most danger in the home for someone who is aging or has mobility challenges. Slippery, wet floors; getting in and out of a bathtub; using the commode at night; or simply navigating the confined space of most bathrooms - there are quite a few ways that someone could injure themselves. Coastal Bath & Shower is committed to helping you modify your home and bathroom to help prevent these accidents. Whether you need a couple of grab bars or a whole new tub or shower installation, our Certified Aging in Place specialists are trained, experienced, and prepared to guide you through this important process.

Functional and stylish bathing safety options.

Step-Through Not Over

Create a custom-sized opening in the side of your tub with our Clean-Cut safety step. Step through – not over your bathtub! It’s fast, easy, and convenient.

This tub-to-shower conversion option helps reduce slip and fall accidents by turning an existing bathtub into a step-in shower, and is an excellent and affordable option to maintain bathing independence. It’s reversible too! Seniors and people with mobility issues frequently choose this option; others use it as a temporary solution during physical rehabilitation, reverting back to a tub once healed.

Several sizes and options are available without extensive remodeling. The convertible insert can be removed to step through for a shower - then locked back into place for bathing.

Grab Bars

Grab bars provide support and help prevent slipping or falling when entering, exiting, sitting, or using the shower, tub, vanity, or toilet.

Due to hard tile floors, tight spaces, and slippery surfaces, the bathroom is the most dangerous place in your home for slips and falls. With an endless variety of finishes, styles, and lengths - our selection of decorative and functional safety accessories will coordinate with most bathroom styles and design.

Low-Barrier or Barrier-Free Shower

Tubs are very difficult to access for those who are aging or have mobility challenges. Creating a roll-in, curbless shower stall removes barriers, allowing full access for those who cannot maneuver over a curb or over the tub.

We convert fiberglass or cast iron bathtubs and tile wall surrounds to new, low-barrier, or barrier-free showers. Safe, durable, and accessible. Add a modern look and lifetime value to your new shower or tub with an inlaid recessed pocket of stylish tile to coordinate with floor or backsplash designs. Trench drain and decorative stone-look shower pans are popular and can be customized in color, pattern, or texture.

Walk-in Bathtub

A walk-in bathtub is a tub that fills and drains after you’ve entered and sat down. Unlike a normal bathtub, walk-in tubs have tall walls and a swinging door, making it easy to step in and out. A safe, soothing, and spa-like bathing experience for people of all ages, walk-in tubs are particularly beneficial for those with health ailments that benefit from the therapeutic water, circulation, and warmth.

Luxurious soaking therapy, customized for your specific needs and preferences. Easily installed in the same space as a standard, 5-foot tub or shower.

Widening Doorways & Leveling Thresholds

Walkers, scooters and wheelchairs require a lot of space for safe movement in the home. We can remove the existing door along with the door frame around it, and replace it with a new, custom-sized interior door unit. Barn doors, pocket doors and french doors are popular door alternatives we’ve installed.

Many older homes require interior transition ramps or floor modifications to ensure safe movement throughout the house. Room-to-room transitions should be smooth and seamless to prevent falls.

Accessible Sinks & Vanity

Depending on the situation, sink and vanity heights may need to be adjusted to make them easier to use. Some situations require sinks to be low enough for access from a seated position and include faucets that are easy to reach and operate.

Removing under-sink cabinets and opting for a pedestal sink will allow an individual to get as close as possible to the bowl or faucets. Sometimes, if an individual can walk without assistance but has trouble bending, a higher sink or vanity may be the best option.

Hand-Held Shower Heads

People with balance, strength, and endurance issues benefit from the ease of use and allows access to the shower while it’s still dry, decreasing fall risks.

Hand-held showerheads are handy for those who receive assistance from a caregiver for their bath. Adjustable or sliding shower heads make it easier and safer for the caregiver as there will be less bending and awkward postures.

Slip-Resistant Surfaces

Anyone can slip and fall in the bathroom. A slip-resistant surface application on tile or porcelain floors, shower pans, and tub floors helps prevent falls that often lead to serious injuries.

Bidet Seats

Bidet seats can be installed on most residential toilets, instantly upgrading your bathroom experience with increased comfort and hygiene.

A bidet can also provide a superior cleaning experience compared to using toilet tissue. Bidets are popular and user-friendly for people with mobility issues, arthritis, or difficulties reaching behind. Choose from a wide selection of features like heated seats, warm-water cleansing, air dryers, and remote control. Other benefits of using a bidet:

  • Eco-conscious - Uses less water and toilet tissue.

  • Money-saver: Saves hundreds of dollars a year on tissue purchases.

  • Fewer plunger incidents - Less tissue plugging up the toilet.

Comfort-Height Toilets

Like the bathroom sink or vanity, a toilet also needs to be accessible from a seated position. This often means a replacement with a longer and taller base or the addition of a base beneath the toilet that would raise the unit several inches.

The taller seat simply makes it easier to sit down and stand up. The higher seat alleviates the discomfort that comes from squatting down and cocking the knees out to the side. A comfort-height toilet is especially beneficial for taller people, seniors, and anyone with knee or back pain. Lower-seat toilets make it difficult to get up and down, particularly for the elderly or weak.

So Much More!

  • Safely enter and exit the tub with support from a tub bar, providing a comfortable, safe grip for stepping into and out of the tub.

  • Curved Shower Rods provide up to 33% more room in the shower, keeping water inside the shower instead of leaking out onto the bathroom floor.

  • Weighted, Microbial Shower Curtains are made out of heavy material and weighted at the bottom; ideal for walk-in showers.

  • Choose from a large selection of bathing safety accessories and maintain your safety and independence at home.

Shower Seats

Shower seats help seniors or the mobility-challenged have more stability and comfort in the shower. It’s considerably easier to sit down on a shower seat and feel secure instead of standing up and moving around, especially when the floor is wet and slippery. As a result, seniors feel more independent and confident in their choice to Age in Place.

Wall-mounted, fold-down, 4-legged, or removable shower seats provide relaxed seating and safety while washing, shaving or simply taking a break from the task of standing up straight under hot water. Remain seated while bathing and minimize the chance of a slip or fall accident.
